Spring is here
Spring has arrived……
NHS Lothian Orthotic service offer all children a free eyesight check-up in their preschool year for children eligible to start school on August 2015 ( children born between 1st March 2010 and 28th February 2011). These tests are deigned to pick up any eye problems before a child goes to school. As such they will be visiting Peekaboo Nursery on Thursday 2nd April in the afternoon.
Please complete and return the form to Miss Gunn to give consent for this to eye test to be carried out. Should you not wish your child to have the test, the form still requires to be returned.
Red Nose Day
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Red Nose day appeal – we raised an amazing £237.07. The photographic evidence suggests that everyone got into the swing of ‘making their face funny for money.’
To keep spirits high and children engaged, for the week commencing 25th May we would like to invite children and staff to come dressed as their favourite character from a book and to bring the book into nursery to share with their friends.
Professional Development Review
The start of the year was particularly busy as we carried out our yearly ‘Professional Development and Reviews’ for staff.
Each staff member agrees a number of professional targets to be attained throughout the year. These targets along with the Standards and Quality Improvement Plan help to shape the monthly staff meetings in the evenings.
As part of this process, Miss Cano is undertaking an indepth look at the Mathematics and Numeracy Provision within the Centre. As such, she is consulting with children, parents and staff to re evaluate what is currently on offer and how this can be extended both indoors and out. As a result of this you can expect to see some terrific changes in the coming months.
As a result of this P.D.R process we have three staff returning to study, Miss Gunn, Mrs Morris and Mr Luque. Good luck to all three.
Nature Play Conference
Six staff attended the Nature Play Conference at the Robert Douglas School in Scone at the start of March and as part of a follow up are attend the Spring Conference in Cramond.
The skills obtained will hopefully be put to good use in our Mud Kitchen and Forest Schools initiative.
In the weeks to come, I am going to collect parents’ views on volunteering to help with our Forest Schools Outings, so look out your wellies and waterproofs.
Miss Morris and Miss Goodfellow have been busy collecting evidence of Schematic Play which they are going to use to create a power point presentation for staff and parents to enhance their understanding.
As such we would like to invite parents to nursery on the Wednesday 15th April between 7pm – 8pm to come and view this presentation and ask questions.
If you want to know why your child keeps emptying everything all over the floor or why they keep hiding your keys, then this is for you…
Please let me know if you will be attending. Wine will be provided …
On the same evening we are going to display our new ‘Heuristic Play Bags’ that staff have been creating. This will allow you to see the benefits that using natural materials affords.
Early Years Conference
The Early Years Conference was at Hibernian Football Club at the end of February with this year’s focus being on ‘Building the Ambition’. This is a new government document that looks at making Scotland the very best place for children to grow up in.
On the back of winning the ‘Best Individual Nursery’ in Scotland NMT Awards in 2014 , I have been invited to be on the panel to judge this year’s applicants in June.
Early Years Funding
The new code system seems to have worked well over the last two terms, albeit very time consuming at this end. A wee reminder to parents that if you are moving house, changing the number of sessions attended or sharing a place with local authority alert me to the fact so that I can alter NAMS.
Please make sure that you complete and return the forms for Sessions 2015 -2016 as I will be making a start on the allocation of places for next session very soon. Should you wish to change days, increase days, reduce days now is the time to request itJ
Yogi Toes & Tutti Footy
The next block of Yogi Toes runs from Thursday 23rd April to 25th June, making it a block of 10 weeks.
Similarly Tutti Footy will run from 20th April to the 22nd June.
Forms will be issued electronically for completion by parents.
Babies, Wobblies and Juniors will all be holding parents evening in the coming weeks. Keyworkers will arrange days and times that are suitable for you to attend.
Miss Serrano and Miss Kala both have had the stress of moving home recently, while Miss Cardida helped organise a fundraising event for 150 people which included a run round Edinburgh.
Miss Martin got her foot on the property ladder and has now moved into her first official pad. When is the party???
Miss Morris and Miss Goodfellow both had holidays to New York in February with Miss Goodfellow surprising us all by coming back engaged….
Congratulations Marie and Jordan from all at Peekaboo.
Staying on the Wedding theme, Miss Steph Mckay and Paul have booked their Wedding reception and she has been frequenting the Bridal Boutiques looking for that perfect dress.
As Easter approaches, I hope you all manage to have restful and enjoyable time.
